The latest sero survey in Mumbai conducted by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed that more than 51 per cent of children between the ages of 6 and 18 have developed antibodies against Covid-19. This sero survey was conducted between April 1 and June 15, when the second wave of coronavirus was at its peak in Maharashtra and India. AIR correspondent reports that Nair Hospital and Kasturba Lab jointly collected a total of 2,176 blood samples from 24 wards of Mumbai. The key findings of this study suggest that more than 51 per cent of the pediatric population in a healthcare setting have already been exposed to Covid-19.
According to BMC’s Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani, there is a notable increase in the sero positivity in the pediatric population to Covid -19 in this study. Sero survey conducted in March 2021 showed a sero positivity of 39.4 per cent in the age group of 18 years. He informed that taking age into consideration, the sero positivity rate of children in the age group of 1-4 years is 51.04 per cent, 47.33 per cent for 5-9 years group, 53.43 per cent for 10-14 years group, and 51.39 per cent for 15-18 years group.
